Health experts say the fatal key to many biological agents is the secondary infections they cause. For example, smallpox can lead to pneumonia - which is often deadly. So they say it's more important than ever to get a flu shot this season.
Janice Sheehan of the Tulsa County Health Department is part of an emergency response team for possible biological attacks. "We want to keep everybody as healthy as we can. We want to keep them from getting secondary infections - whether we ever have any of this. And we all hope that we're making all these plans and doing all these things and we never ever have to implement them, but we don't know that.â€
Nursing homes will receive flu shots at the end of the month, health departments will get them in mid to late November.
