(Dallas-AP) -- Dallas' bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics reportedly is close to making the cut for finalists in the competition.
An unidentified U-S Olympic Committee source tells The Dallas Morning News that New York and Washington are ``excellent guesses'' as the leaders to advance. Published reports in those cities have indicated those bids have enough support to stay in the hunt.
The USOC source says San Francisco appears to be a good bet for the third spot, with the race between Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Tampa, Florida, too close to call. Cincinnati rounds out the field.
A field of eight cities will be cut to between three and five, with an announcement scheduled for Friday afternoon.
