Brett Hull's shot in overtime got Dallas Stars fans to jump out of their seats and sent them to the exits unhappy.

Hull had two goals in his first game back in Dallas, including the winner 48 seconds into overtime, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 victory over the Stars on Wednesday night.

The 37-year-old Hull joined Detroit in August as a free agent after three seasons with the Stars, the team he scored the winning goal for against the Buffalo Sabres in 1999 to win the Stanley Cup. He downplayed the goal against his former teammates, but admitted it was special.

``(It felt good), but not because of spite,'' Hull said. ``I've got so much respect for those guys over there, but it was nice to get the win.''

Hull, who earlier in the game scored his 654th career goal to move into sole possession of sixth place on the career list, took a pass from Nicklas Lidstrom on a 3-on-1 and beat Ed Belfour as the Red Wings improved to 6-0-0 on the road.

``With the heavy ice, I tried to just shoot it heavy and quick,'' Hull said.

In other NHL games, Florida beat the New York Rangers 3-1; Philadelphia defeated Pittsburgh 3-0; Nashville topped Minnesota 6-4; St. Louis edged Colorado 1-0; and San Jose got past Anaheim 4-2.

The first six goals in Dallas were scored in the first period.

Jere Lehtinen scored short-handed for the Stars at 4:25, but Sergei Fedorov tied it on the power play 1:18 later. Donald Audette got behind the Detroit defense to give Dallas a 2-1 lead at 10:57, but Hull evened it at 2 at 12:18 when he capitalized on a turnover by Stars defenseman Derian Hatcher.

Brendan Shanahan put Detroit back in front at 13:02, but Benoit Hogue evened it at 3 on a shot that went into the net off the glove of Red Wings goalie Manny Legace.

``Some of the mistakes that we made were individual mistakes,'' Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said after Dallas dropped its third straight. ``When that happens, it ends up in your net.''

Panthers 3, Rangers 1

Rookie Kristian Huselius scored his eighth and ninth goals to lift Florida to victory at New York.

With the Panthers on a power play, Huselius blasted a slap shot over Rangers goalie Mike Richter's glove at 13:35 of the third to give Florida a 2-1 lead.

Huselius added an unassisted goal at 16:52 to make it 3-1. He extended his goal-scoring steak to five games, passing Radek Dvorak for the Panthers' longest rookie goal-scoring streak.

Pavel Bure also scored for Florida, while Andreas Johansson scored New York's only goal.
