ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ Texas Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo agreed to a three-year contract Wednesday, the first member of manager Jerry Narron's staff to sign for next season.

A final decision hasn't been made on the status of first-base coach Reid Nichols, third-base coach Bobby Jones, pitching coach Bobby Cuellar and bullpen coach Larry Hardy. All have been told they will be considered for the 2002 staff, but also were also given permission to seek other opportunities.

Bench coach Bucky Dent is the only coach told he won't remain with the Rangers, the team said in a statement Wednesday.

Jaramillo has been the team's hitting coach since 1995, and served in the same position for the Houston Astros from 1990-93. He was a minor league coach, manager and hitting instructor for the Rangers from 1983-89.

Despite finishing last in the AL West, the Rangers hit .275 while leading the majors with 246 homers and 595 extra base hits, both team records. They also led the AL with 2,676 total bases and were second with 1,566 hits (9.7 hits per game).

The Rangers also agreed to terms with three minor league free agents. Catcher Brad King and infielder Eddy Martinez agreed to terms on contracts with Triple-A Oklahoma, and outfielder Juan Silvestre signed with Double-A Tulsa.
