Baby critical after being found in OKC dumpster

Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A newborn girl was in critical condition Thursday after being found in a trash Dumpster outside a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex.

The infant was found about 7:45 a.m. by a man who saw something wrapped in a sack that was moving, police Capt. Jessica Cummins said.

``He thought it was a cat inside,'' she said.

Cummins said it was a shame the person who left the baby didn't take advantage of a new state law that gives a parent up to seven days to leave a child with a medical services provider without facing prosecution. The law went into effect in July.
