(Atlantic City-AP) -- Miss America won't commit to staying in Atlantic City beyond 2002.
The pageant announced Thursday it will stay in New Jersey for another year so a task force can come up with incentives to keep the show in the state.
The annual event was wooed this year by sites in Nevada, Florida, California, and Connecticut.
Pageant officials say it's too expensive to continue staging the event at Boardwalk Hall. They want one (m) million dollars in new subsidies.
The Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority has refused to contribute any more money.
Atlantic City has been home to the pageant for 80 years.
