Residents in NE Oklahoma Say NO to Proposed Chicken Farm

Updated:
There are ruffled feathers in one Northeastern Oklahoma community.

Residents are saying 'NO' to a proposed chicken farm.

Property owners from the small community of Narcissa, south of Miami are trying to stop the development of a 390 acre chicken farm.

Prosper Farms wants to build as many as 90-chicken houses for more than 2-million birds.

Ottawa County's Rural Water District 2 members voted 3 to 1 in favor of supplying the needed water to the poultry producer.

Prosper Farms says there's a lot of money at stake.

Nearby residents say they never had a say - so all 400 of them have signed petitions against it.

Betty Malone/Concerned Resident: "We did not know anything about this. We've been blindsighted, all of a sudden it was here."

Buddy Pilgram/Prosper Farms: "We've got some working folks who've invested 200,000 dollars into a piece of land.

Residents say their quality of life and the safety of their air and water are at stake.

Prosper Farms would contract their goods to Simmon's Foods Company.

That's one of several poultry distributors the City of Tulsa recently filed a lawsuit against for alleged cases of water pollution
