Local Marines say they are proud to serve

Marine Reservists based in Broken Arrow are answering the call to duty in the war on terrorism. Corporal Mike Young and his wife Chandee are getting ready to say goodbye to one another for at least a year.

Young's anti-tank training unit in Broken Arrow has been called up to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Young's ultimate mission could take him overseas. Corporal Young and his wife are glad he has a chance to "do" something to fight terrorism. "I can go out and actually defend my country and make a difference. And that's what I really want to do. That's why I joined the Marine Corps. Remember what you're fighting for and remember that you have a lot to come back to.â€

Young has been a Marine nearly six years. With a father and several brothers in the military, you might say service to his country runs in Young's family. This is the first time any of the family has been called to active duty in wartime since Desert Storm.

Some of Young's unit will leave on Saturday. He'll be leaving with the rest on Monday.
