Students celebrate Worldfest 2002

Updated:
Students at Broken Arrow's Oliver Middle School toured the world Monday from the comfort of their classrooms. The school hosted a Worldfest celebration that included learning the dances of several different cultures.

The school brought in speakers from Japan, Israel and Iran, just to name a few. One teacher says his goal with the project is to help students understand that the United States is not the only country in the world. Justin Ennis, Oliver Middle School: "Trying to understand the difference that people have experienced in their lives and being part of a global community, but even though we do have many similarities we also have many differences, and that we need to understand those and try to be tolerant."

The Worldfest event happens only once every two years.
