Cherokee Nation is Finalist in Awards Program

(TAHLEQUAH, Okla.) - The Cherokee Nation is one of 16 finalists in Harvard University's American Indian tribal governance awards program for the year 2002.

The tribe was cited for its Cherokee Nation history course, a free 40-hour, college-level study for members of Cherokee communities.

The course teaches Cherokee history to Indians and non-Indians.

Eight programs will be honored June 18 in Bismarck, N.D.
