Child Abuse Network resigns partnership agreement

Child abuse has long been one of Oklahoma’s blackest marks, with statistics showing the problem is still on the rise.

In Tulsa Wednesday the Child Abuse Network, known as 'CAN' held a re-signing of its partnership agreement that includes five different departments working to stop child abuse. For the last ten years 'CAN' has enabled medical, investigative, mental health, and legal professionals all to fight child abuse under one roof.

The group's director says while one role of the program is to make an investigation more accountable and efficient, the other is kindness. Barbara Findeiss, Executive Director of Child Abuse Network: "It was originally though of as a way to help reduce trauma. The extra trauma that the system, the actual procedure, child abuse investigators would cause."

The program depends on private contributions as well as some public funding to operate.
