Broken Arrow city council gives go ahead for new YMCA

The Broken Arrow City Council has given the go ahead for a new YMCA center. The "Y" wants to build a 55,000 square foot facility near 81st and Garnett.

Some people who live nearby are against it. They're concerned about additional traffic, and believe other locations are more suitable. In the end, the council voted to go ahead with the plan. Broken Arrow resident Duane Montgomery, "Looks like we're going to have to become members of the YMCA. That's really not what we wanted to do. But we'll have to support it. If it comes into our community, we need to support our community. That's really the bottom line."

The YMCA will now get public input on what kinds of programs people in Broken Arrow and south Tulsa want to see at the facility.

It will still be several years before the facility will open.
