Tulsa school students remember space shuttle crew

Updated:
The space shuttle disaster touched people everywhere. That includes Tulsa school children.

Students at Tulsa's Grissom Elementary School [pictured] took time Monday to remember the seven Columbia astronauts with poems and pictures.

Tulsa Union's McAuliffe Elementary School has close ties the space program. The school is named after teacher Krista McAuliffe who was killed in the Challenger disaster in 1986.

Monday, the school used its broadcast news program to give an important message to students. "The thing you can do as students to honor the memory of these astronauts and Krista McAuliffe is pursue knowledge and be the very best student you can be.”

The school plans to hold a special assembly on February 14th to honor their red banner students. At that assembly, several students will present oral reports on the space program.
