Severe weather season is fast approaching and many rely on weather radios to alert them when severe weather is headed our way.
But what if you're hearing impaired, and couldn't hear an audible alert? There's an alternative. The 4th and 5th grade deaf education class at Broken Arrow's Leisure Park Elementary School received a weather radio Monday designed with a special kit.
The kit includes a flashing light that goes off when there's a weather alert. Some of the radios come with a vibrating alert too. Marie Hodges with Leisure Park Elementary Deaf Education, "many times we've always depended on the hearing people to alert us, now it will be something we can access, so that's exciting."
Project Impact donated the special weather radio.
