Traffic deaths decline during January


(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The number of traffic deaths in Oklahoma during January declined by 13 from the year before.

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety says 34 people died in crashes during the first month of the year, down from 47 during January 2002.

The highest number of fatalities was five in Tulsa County, followed by for in both Muskogee and Pushmataha counties.

Police say the leading cause of the deadly crashes is unsafe speed.
