A check of prices show a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has jumped to a $1.53 at some places in Tulsa.
And that's fueling problems for businesses, particularly truck drivers. The cost of diesel fuel has gone up dramatically to about a $1.50 per gallon in the last four months. Driver Johnny Watkins has 15 trucks, be he says it's too costly to operate them. "Four months ago, I was making a 40% profit. Right now, I'm breaking even, in some cases I'm losing to haul the freight."
Cold weather in the eastern US, the possibility of war with Iraq, and the recent oil strike in Venezuela are contributing to the high cost.
