STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma State's top-ranked wrestling team had no trouble staying unbeaten, winning nine of 10 matches Sunday in a 38-3 victory over Oklahoma.
Oklahoma's only victory came in the marquee matchup of the afternoon, where Teyon Ware beat Zack Esposito 4-3 at 141 pounds.
Both are true freshmen, but Esposito came in ranked No. 1 by Amateur Wrestling News and Ware was ranked No. 3.
After a scoreless first period, Esposito got on the board with an escape to start the second period. In the third, Ware scored a reversal and two nearfall points to take a 4-1 lead. Esposito eventually scored two more points to make it 4-3.
The dual started with Chris Pendleton beating Robbie Waller 5-3. The Sooners then forfeited at 184 and 197 pounds before the Cowboys picked up decisions by Willie Gruenwald at heavyweight and Skyler Holman at 125 and a major decision by Johnny Thompson at 133. Holman needed a takedown with 14 seconds left to beat Bo Maynes 3-1.
After the Ware victory for OU, the Cowboys closed out the dual with a major decision by Ronnie Delk at 149, a decision by Shane Roller at 157 and a fall by Tyrone Lewis at 165.
Oklahoma State is now 16-0. Oklahoma fell to 12-8.
``We have a complete squad, from 125 to heavyweight,'' OSU coach John Smith said. ``This team has taken steps toward the things we want to accomplish.''
