More information released in Monday's triple homicide in north Tulsa

Updated:
New information on a triple homicide in Tulsa. Monday's crime put the number of murders in Tulsa at 35 this year. That’s up from 34 in all of last year.

News on 6 reporter Patrina Adger says out of the 35 murders, 15 are unsolved. And that includes the latest triple homicide where a mother and her two teenage boys were killed.

Tulsa Police believe the motive was drugs. Police say 42-year old Karen Chappel and her son Whitney were both shot in the head. 14-year-old Kalin was shot in the chest and stabbed.

According to family and friends of Whitney, the 17 year old, was actively using and selling marijuana. Family members made several attempts to get him to stop, but it didn't work. Tulsa Police detectives believe Whitney was the initial target but his mother and younger brother were probably killed because they were witnesses.

Their bodies were found in their north Tulsa house after a healthcare worker went to check on Karen's elderly father who is terminally ill. That man and Whitney's 18-month-old baby were also in the house but were not injured.
