Word of a scam that takes advantage of a family's pain. A man has been approaching businesses in the Tulsa area collecting money and goods claiming to be the brother of Paul Silkey.
He's the convenience store clerk shot to death during a robbery last week. Silkey [pictured] volunteered at the Turley Fire Department, so one of the potential victims called them about the suspicious man. Silkey does have two brothers but neither one is involved.
Witnesses say the man has a good sob story. And some people are buying it. "He was just real sincere, he didn't look like he was joking, he didn't look like any sign of you know, that he wasn't completely sincere."
He is described as a white male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He wears oval glasses, has brown hair and wears a brace on his right knee. Git-N-Go and the Turley Fire Department have set up legitimate funds for the family.
There's still no arrest for the suspect who killed Silkey in the Git-N-Go robbery. Police believe the man is connected to two other robberies this summer.
