Former deputy health commissioner sentenced

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Brent VanMeter, a former Oklahoma deputy health commissioner, was sentenced Wednesday to an additional two years in prison for accepting bribes.

VanMeter is nearing the end of a 3-year prison term in a separate bribery case. He asked that the new sentence be retroactive and run at the same time as his current prison term, allowing him to be released next week.

Federal Judge Robin Cauthron rejected the request.

VanMeter still faces two state charges involving so-called ``ghost'' employees at the Health Department.
