Oklahoma has executed twice as many inmates this year as last. And it's keeping pace with Texas, which leads the nation in executions.
Oklahoma has put 14 inmates to death this year. That compares to 7 in 2002. In 2001, the state hit its peak with 18 executions.
We could come close to that number if more executions are scheduled before the end of the year. That could happen. The US Supreme Court has refused to hear the cases of three death row inmates.
