Severe weather didn’t cancel services at one church in Sapulpa, even though it was heavily damaged.
News on 6 anchor Craig Day says they had services Wednesday evening, but they'll have a big cleanup Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. The powerful winds demolished a portion of their nearly half million-dollar expansion project.
The church has been planning for years to build a new sanctuary. Construction began about a week ago, on the 7,000 square foot addition, but within a matter of seconds it all came tumbling down. Some of the workers go out less than a minute before the storm hit.
Pastor Scott Gordon: “It's a minor setback but I gotta keep the faith and know that all things look together for the good."
The pastor says the damage should be covered by insurance. The church will cleanup and start over again.
