US Senator Don Nickles asks Kirk Humphreys to pull attack ad

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Retiring US Senator Don Nickles is asking Kirk Humphreys to pull an attack ad that criticizes fellow Republican Tom Coburn.

Coburn and Humphreys are both seeking the GOP nomination in the race to replace Nickles.

Nickles is endorsing Humphreys, but spoke out against the negative tone of the Republican race.

The Oklahoman's Washington bureau says Nickles called Humphreys after the ex-Oklahoma City mayor began airing television ads attacking Coburn's voting record in Congress.

Humphreys' spokesman Rick Buchanan said the ad will run for the three days as originally scheduled.
