Cellular phone companies reach deal with Oklahoma

NEW YORK (AP) _ Cell phone customers in Oklahoma and 31 other states will know more about their service plans under a deal agreed to by three cellular phone companies.

Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless and Spring PCS agreed to the requirements in a deal with the 32 states.

The companies will give customers more detailed coverage maps and allow a two-week grace period to end cell phone service without penalty. They will also offer full disclosure of service contract rates and their marketing must be more specific about costs and limits of services.

The companies will also pay the states a total of $5-million for consumer education. Oklahoma will receive $106,666 for investigative and legal costs.
