Pakistani prime minister designate survives apparent suicide assassination attempt

Updated:
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) _ Pakistan's Prime Minister designate Shaukat Aziz survived an apparent suicide attack on his motorcade Friday, police said.

The attack occurred in the evening as Aziz, the finance minister who had already been named to take over as prime minister, was traveling through a bazaar in Fateh Jang, a town 35 miles southwest of the capital, Islamabad, said Mohammed Haidar, a local police official.

Haidar said Aziz's driver was killed but the senior politician escaped. Geo Television reported two people were killed, including the attacker.
