Salvation Army hoping to reopen homeless shelter in Muskogee

Updated:
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The Salvation Army is hoping to reopen a homeless shelter in Muskogee that had to close last week.

The Salvation Army's regional headquarters awarded the shelter $50,000 to pay local vendors who work with it.

Major Cedric McClure of the Salvation Army says 15 people had to leave the shelter when it shut down last week.

Salvation Army officials says the shelter was about $100,000 in the red because of lagging financial support and increased needs of the community.
