McAlester church honored for its efforts during the Terry Nichols trial

An outreach program at a McAlester church is recognized for helping the survivors and victims families of the Oklahoma City bombing.

The Oklahoma County DA's office presented the congregation of the First Baptist Church with a plaque Sunday in thanks for their "Project Refuge."

With help and donations from church members, volunteers provided meals daily for 3 months to the survivors as well as the prosecution team in Terry Nichols trial. And during the weeks of emotional and often graphic testimony in the trial, the church provided a safe and quiet place for the survivors and family members to pray or simply be alone.

Pastor Dr Randall Adams: "We prayed for them every morning before they went to trial-had a room set up for that."

Church members say they are blessed to be part of a church that is able to help people in need.
