At least 18 illegal immigrants found in van in Garfield County

ENID, Okla. (AP) -- Nineteen illegal immigrants are in custody after a Garfield County reserve deputies found them in a van along US 412 near Lahoma.

Undersheriff Jerry Niles says the deputies thought the vehicle was disabled because it was traveling along the highway's shoulder with its lights flashing.

Niles says they found the illegal immigrants after stopping the van about 8:30 Sunday night.

Reserve deputy Greg Voth says the immigrants were lying on top of each other.

Niles says the immigrants were detained but not at Garfield County Jail. He says the facility doesn't have enough space for any more prisoners.

A sheriff's dispatcher says the Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Oklahoma City picked up the immigrants Monday night.
