SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) -- Prosecutors will determine whether a seven-year veteran of the Shawnee Police Department should be charged following a weekend arrest.
Patrol Officer Brett Edward Norton was placed on administrative leave after he was taken into custody on a complaint of actual physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Sergeant Johnny Austin arrested the Norton just before 6 AM Sunday after finding his pickup truck stopped on a county road.
Sheriff Kurt Shirey says Norton failed field sobriety tests and a test conducted at the police station showed he had a blood-alcohol level above the legal point-oh-eight limit.
Acting Police Chief Conny Clay says he can't comment on the case while it's under investigation.
Norton couldn't be reached for comment.
