5 Rescued From Rising Flood Waters

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- Five people were rescued Sunday near Bartlesville after the Caney River flooded its banks. State emergency officials say the river is more than three feet above flood stage and is expected to crest Sunday night at nearly ten feet over flood stage.

Three people were rescued by boat early Sunday morning after rapidly rising water forced them from their home. And the Dewey Fire Department rescued another couple Sunday afternoon using a large military truck.

The Red Cross has set up shelters in both Dewey and Bartlesville. In Dewey residents can seek shelter at the Dewey High School Gym, and in Bartlesville the East Cross United Methodist Church at 820 South Madison Boulevard is open to flood victims. If it fills up another Bartlesville shelter will be opened at the Liberty Chapel of Praise, located at 1312 West Hensley.
