No Major Damage Or Injuries After Bay Area Quake

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) _ Mostly just frayed nerves.

The cities of Oakland and Berkeley fared well after a four-point-two magnitude earthquake shook the area early this morning.

Some broken windows were reported after the light tremor hit, but no injuries. The quake lasted up to ten seconds and was felt on both sides of the San Francisco Bay.

Residents were shaken awake as pictures slipped from walls and objects tumbled. A grocery store worker in Berkeley said two large windows in the store were broken but no one was hurt inside the store.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company said some customers in Oakland lost power, but only briefly.

The U-S Geological Survey says the quake was centered about two miles east of Oakland. The tremor was minor, but widely felt across the heavily populated area.
