KITZBUEHEL, Austria (AP) -- Defending champion Agustin Calleri defeated Diego Hartfield 7-5, 6-2 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Austrian Open.

Hartfield broke sixth-seeded Calleri early in the all-Argentine third-round match, but Calleri did not drop his serve afterward.

Lapentti, who won the tournament in 2001, clinched victory on his fourth match point.

The 11th-seeded Verdasco, a 2005 finalist in Kitzbuehel, held off two set points in the tiebreaker before clinching the match on his first match point.

Andreas Seppi defeated Fabio Fognini 7-6 (3), 7-5. His next opponent is 10th-seeded Potito Starace, who beat Florian Mayer 4-6, 7-6 (0), 6-2.
