Soccer Player Collapses, Dies After Practice

Updated:

Students in Catoosa are mourning the loss of one of their own. On Tuesday, a freshman at Catoosa High School collapsed during 7th period. He later died at a Tulsa hospital. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports the school district remains tight-lipped about what might have happened.

It reportedly was activity hour, and Cody Berg was a soccer player, but it is not known how that might have factored into his death. The superintendent says the loss is tough on everyone and they need the community's help to get through this unexpected tragedy.

"School is a family and so our kids are close and know each other and families know each other. Our family has been impacted significantly. So I would encourage people to pray for us," said Rick Kibbe, the superintendent of Catoosa Public Schools.

They're trying to come to grips with what happened here on November 13th.

"He was given prompt medical attention by the staff until EMTs arrived. Once EMTs arrived he was transported to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away," said Rick Kibbe, the superintendent of Catoosa Public Schools.

Now grief counselors have been called in to help teachers and students deal with their loss.

"I would encourage people to pray for us and remember us. Again especially family," said Rick Kibbe, the superintendent of Catoosa Public Schools.

Catoosa's superintendent says he knows all too well it won't be easy for Cody's family or classmates.

"As a father I have lost a child. So be assured, my heart is connected to them, and my heart goes out to them," said Rick Kibbe, the superintendent of Catoosa Public Schools.

Cody's funeral is set for 1 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Catoosa Public Schools' Activity Center.

A memorial fund has been established for Cody Berg at RCB Bank.
