Owasso Students Attend Sod House Dedication

Students from the Owasso area gathered for a “soddie” housewarming party Wednesday in celebration of the state’s centennial. In construction for the past few months, the authentic sod house was built by the Owasso High School stagecraft class and the 4th graders at Larkin Bailey Elementary School.

The project has given students the opportunity to see first hand how early pioneers lived. Onlookers celebrated the Oklahoma Centennial with a sod house-styled cake. Supplies for the project were donated by local businesses.

If you would like to see an authentic, historic sod home, Oklahoma has a state historic site you may want to visit. The Sod House Museum is located in Alfalfa County in Northwestern Oklahoma. You can call 580-463-2441 for more details or visit their website, www.okhistory.org.
