Lots of high school students work after school. They are successful despite work and a heavy load of extracurricular activities. The News On 6's Rick Wells reports there is a Claremore High School senior who has done all that, while overcoming some significant odds.

Sarah King is a senior at Claremore High School. She works at Sonic after school. And, she plays soccer.

"I started playing soccer when I was ten. I've played recreational soccer and I play high school soccer, now. I'm the editor-in-chief of my high school paper," said Sarah King.

Sarah King is also legally blind.

"I don't usually tell people that. I kind of let them figure it out for themselves," said Sarah King.

She can see some, but not well. She's very nearsighted and there's no correction for the problem.

"My eye muscles are kind of weak. They kind of shake around some," said Sarah King.

Apparently, her hearing isn't very good either because people have been telling her all her life what she can't do and she keeps ignoring them.

"I just have that kind of ambition, you know. I can do it," said Sarah King.

She says her whole life has been about proving people wrong who say she can't do something.

Sarah has worked on her school's newspaper, The Tatler, since she was a freshman. She won a journalism award this year. She makes terrific grades. And her boss at Sonic says she's a great employee.

Life has taught her a few lessons, though.

"If you've been told all your life you can't do something, go out and try it. With enough determination, you can show anybody you can do anything," said Sarah King.

Ultimately, Sarah hopes to attend the University of Oklahoma and study meteorology.
