What better way to say thanks to our troops than with a box of Girl Scout cookies.  Better yet, a box of cookies and a personalized thank you note from an elementary student.  The News On 6's Rick Wells reports a Broken Arrow Brownie troop is well on its way to a goal of sending a thousand boxes of cookies and thank you notes.

Indian Springs Elementary students work hard Thursday creating thank you notes for our troops in Iraq.  One card reads "thank you for serving."  Many of the others are decorated with hearts and flags.

The goal is 1,000 boxes of cookies, each with an accompanying note.  Some 2nd and 3rd graders in Rhonda Watts' and Susan Thomas' classes at Indian Springs are helping get the note writing part of the project started.

"Over half our troop has a family member or close friend in the military," said Phyllis Friederich.

So, this became an easy project for the Brownies and others to commit to.

"This is a very easy project for me to get involved in.  Yes, anything I can do for them, I'm all for it," said Susan Thomas, who has two sons on their way to Iraq.

This is the second year for the project.  Last year, Troop 199 provided 600 boxes of cookies to the Blue Star Mothers to be included in their Freedom Boxes because nothing says home quite like Girl Scout Cookies.  This year they're sending not only cookies, but handmade notes, too.
