Police encouraged football fans to stay off the roads on Sunday after the Super Bowl. The News On 6's Chris Wright reports, police searched for people after the game who had too much to drink and then took to the roads.

Police urged party-goers to call a cab or use a designated driver after their game day celebrations.

Sunday's 70 degree weather drew fans to the patio at the Bru House on Brookside. Fans say it was the ideal setting to kick back and have a few cold ones.

"Absolutely, we're enjoying this awesome weather in February," said football fan Tara Erwin.

"Is everyone going to be behaving themselves?  Probably not, it's Super Bowl Sunday, but hopefully everyone will get home safely," said football fan Madeline Cosgrove.

Tulsa Police Department Officer Robin Mendenhall wanted everyone to get home safely as well. Mendenhall is part of an increased TPD presence on Super Bowl Sunday. The department hoped more visible officers on the roads would translate to fewer DUI's.

"Out patrolling the streets, looking for any types of violations; if we do see a violation, then we will be stopping that vehicle," said Tulsa Police Department Officer Robin Mendenhall.

Officer Mendenhall said the Super Bowl ranks high with other holidays known for heavy drinking, like Saint Patrick's Day and Mardi Gras.

"Every officer is aware of that.  We'll be more vigilant, looking for anybody that's out driving when they shouldn't be driving," said Mendenhall.

Mendenhall spent her night cruising by local watering holes on her beat, and hoped fans had the good sense to know when to say when.

"Either stay where you're at, call a friend, call a cab, find another way home, but do not drive," said Mendenhall.
