February is Black History Month and each year Tulsa City-County Libraries pick one person to receive a special honor.  This year it's world renowned poet Nikki Giovanni. February is Black History Month and each year Tulsa City-County Libraries pick one person to receive a special honor.  This year it's world renowned poet Nikki Giovanni.

The Virginia Tech professor's words are credited for helping the university heal after last year's massacre.  She's also the author of more than 30 books for adults and children.

On Saturday, Rudsill presented her with the Sankofa Freedom Award.  It's given to those who have dedicated their lives to educating and improving the greater African American Community.

It was standing room only as Giovanni delivered her acceptance speech.

"I think I'm a generous person, I'm generous with my ideas, just the way I look at the world. And I try to pass that generosity on," said Nikki Giovanni.

The Freedom Award consists of a $5,000 prize and an engraved medallion.
