New Lead In Cori Baker Disappearance

A new witness provides a lead in the Cori Baker case.  She's the 13-year-old girl who's been missing since November 9th.  Her sister's boyfriend has been charged with murder, but her body has not been found.  News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports the witness gave police a new timeline and a new location on which to focus their attention.  Meanwhile, there is also an online scam that is targeting Cori's family.

Until Monday, the last known sighting of Cori Baker alive was just after 2:00 p.m. on November 9th when witnesses say Marquis Bullock picked her up from school in his car, a red Firebird.  But, the new witness is confident he saw Cori in Marquis' car at 4:23 p.m. that day, speeding in south Tulsa.

"He initially saw them driving past Uniform Division Southwest, northbound on Riverside Drive and saw a young teenage girl struggling and fighting with the driver of the vehicle," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Mike Huff.

Police say they're confident of the witness' identification of Cori and Marquis and that the Firebird cut off the man, ran the red light at 71st Street and nearly caused a crash.  Police hope others remember that incident and will also come forward.

"A lot of people think we have all the answers. We only have the answers which the public brings forward. We're very fortunate to have this particular lead and hope it generates more," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Mike Huff.

Another thing that's popped up is a Nigerian-based scam that targets hurting, grieving families.  One has now made its way to Cori's family.

The Baker family has created a website about her case that asks for help.  They received an email that was questionable.  The first red flag was that it started with dear sir/madam.  There was also a demand for money.

"From someone saying they know where Cori was, do not contact police, do not contact media and for a sum of money, they'll let them know where their loved one was," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Tim Stadler of the Cyber Crimes Division.

Sgt. Stadler tracked the I-P address to Ligos, Nigeria, which means making an arrest is next to impossible.  He believes they are targeting all families with missing people.  His advice is never send money and always call police.

Much has been made about a psychic that's telling the Cori Baker family where to search for her body.  Police have not been involved in that search.  They say they're doing their own searches, based on facts.  And, they've poured thousands of man hours into this case and will continue to do so until it's solved.

The witness, who recently came forward, had called police back in November, but didn't talk to a detective and then he had a series of medical issues which kept the information from coming to light until now.
