A fight over a proposed Sand Springs quarry is headed to court.  Sand Springs Materials is suing to open a limestone quarry next to some Sand Springs neighborhoods.

The city of Sand Springs denied a permit for the quarry earlier this month.

Homeowners said it would lower property values; harm the community's welfare and damage city streets and infrastructure.  But the company argues the city lacked quote, "any reasonable basis" to deny the permit.

The company wants to develop the quarry on 515 acres of vacant land located between Avery Drive and 41st Street, east of state Highway 97.

In a news release, Sand Springs city attorney David Weatherford said Sand Springs will "vigorously defend" the Planning Commission's and City Council's actions.

The city of Sand Springs is expected to file a response in the next few weeks.
