An Oklahoma lawmaker says he wants to help working men and women.  Representative Richard Morrissette wants to eliminate the state portion of sales tax on groceries, which is about half.

As a member of the Tax Committee, Morrissette says he can see people are struggling.  He says there's something wrong when people don't have to pay taxes on an NBA ticket, but they do when they buy a gallon of milk for their family.

"I see group after group, industry after industry peddle their wares to the committee, asking for their special exemption and the group that doesn't get a special exemption are the working men and women.  Those people have to go to the grocery store every day and get food for their families.  Those people don't get any special breaks," said Rep. Morrissette, (D) Oklahoma City.

Morrissette believes there's about 25% waste in government spending.  And he says if lawmakers got rid of we wouldn't need to tax groceries to balance the budget.
