Mother Of Young Rape Victim Discusses The Attack

It's been nearly six months since a man kidnapped a five-year-old girl from her Broken Arrow yard and brutally raped her.  Despite a massive effort to find the suspect and 1,800 tips in the case, no one has been arrested.  For the first time, the girl's mother is talking about the attack, in hopes of generating more leads.  News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports in her exclusive, that the little girl has good days and bad days.

"She slept with us and there were lots of nightmares," said Cheyenne, the girl's mother.

Cheyenne describes the initial days after her five-year-old daughter was kidnapped from their front yard in Broken Arrow and raped, then dumped, naked, bleeding and crying on a road eight miles away.  She says the girl's physical injuries are healing and the entire family is in regular counseling.

"There's days I don't want to go anywhere, do anything. She's so excited about school, she's in kindergarten. Loves school and her teachers have been great," said Cheyenne, the girl's mother.

The family has moved from the home where it happened.  Knowing the bad man doesn't know where she lives now, has helped the girl, but, having him in jail would help her fears even more.

"I think the not knowing who it is, that of turning a corner and him being there. We have four daughters and they've all had to grow up since this," said Cheyenne, the girl's mother.

That's why the family is asking again for help trying to identify the suspect.

The girl helped police create a sketch.  He has some hair, but was shaved, no obvious moles or marks, no glasses and is between 18 and 35 years old.

"The balding head, people tend to jump to an older person. She's very adamant he is younger, college or younger, maybe a high school person who looks older," said Cheyenne, the girl's mother.

The family is so appreciative of the community's outpouring of support.  A fund has been a huge help, since Cheyenne is on a leave of absence from work and her husband missed a lot of time and they've had to move.

Despite all the publicity about the case, the family is amazed how many people they talk to who have never even heard about it, so they want to get the word out to as many people as possible before her attacker does the unthinkable to another child.

"That's the huge thing. She's afraid he could hurt somebody else," said Cheyenne, the girl's mother.

Cheyenne says she's heard people wonder why a little girl was playing in a front yard alone.  She says her daughter had been told twice not to leave the backyard and there were locks on both gates, but the little girl climbed the fence anyway.  She says the hardest part has been convincing her daughter it's still not her fault.
