Changes Planned For Alternative School

Some parents say Tulsa Public Schools' plan to help troubled students is fatally flawed.  Constant fighting, overcrowding, and a shortage of textbooks are just some of the accusations from students and parents about the Tulsa Academic Center.  The News On 6's education reporter Ashli Sims reports that the superintendent has announced sweeping changes.

Dr. Michael Zolkoski on Monday unveiled an 11 point plan for change.

He says no more students will be sent to the Tulsa Academic Center, for now.

The Tulsa Academic Center houses a program for students on short term suspension and a boot camp for students suspended longer than 45 days.

It's been criticized for being overcrowded and violent.

One parent told The News On 6 that the program isn't what was promised.  She says there's no discipline and no training, but plenty of fights.
