Local Hoopster Making History

She's the second Oklahoma high school girl to become a McDonald's All-American.

The next generation of women's basketball players took the hardwood on Wednesday night and one of them was a Sapulpa hoopster who was making history.  She's the second Oklahoma high school girl to become a McDonald's All-American.  Alyssia Brewer was one of 24 girls chosen for the national game that aired on ESPNU.  News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports her family couldn't wait to tune in.

The McDonald's All-American Basketball game is an opportunity of a lifetime and Sapulpa's star is shining bright.

"I am just so proud of her.  It's just an amazing honor for her to be in this McDonald's game," said Alyssia's mother, Shelley Brewer.

Alyssia Brewer is one of 24 girls chosen nationwide to play in the prestigious game.

"She was shocked really cause I mean there are so many players for the girls and when narrow it down from a certain point 2,000, to 100 to 24," said Shelley Brewer.

Lyssi usually shines at Sapulpa High School. She's the second player to make it to the big game and folks here say they couldn't be happier.

"She's a phenomenal player. She stands 6'3".  She has great guard skills.  She's got great court vision and passes.  She's just an all-around player," said Darlean Calip, Brewer's Coach.

At home she averages 22 points per game and garnered lots of attention for herself and her team.

"We're very fortunate to have someone of her caliber here to be recognized and so we're really excited," said Calip.

Alyssia is a Nike All-American too.  That game is next month, all good experience for senior who's heading to the top-notch University of Tennessee next fall.

Proceeds from The McDonald's game benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
