The Tulsa school board has called for an independent investigation into a troubled alternative school.

Tulsa Public School Superintendent Dr. Michael Zolkoski stopped any new transfers to the Tulsa Academic Center, or TAC, last month.

The school came under fire amid reports of frequent fighting and overcrowding.

Now, the school board has ordered the school attorney to launch a full inquiry into the failings at TAC. In addition, the school board has ordered all Tulsa Public School alternative programs to be evaluated.

"Tulsa Public Schools is making continuous improvement towards truly fulfilling its mission to provide a quality learning experience for every student, every day, without exception," Tulsa School Board President Gary Percefull said.

Critics wonder how independent the investigation will be, when an attorney paid for by the school, will be doing the investigating.

There are also still a lot of questions about the big gap between the number of students enrolled in TAC and the number of students who actually shows up.
