How about growing golfers?  The sport can be intimidating. Keep your head down, left arm straight, shift your weight, so many things to remember. That's why some kids are learning golf a whole new way.

The News On 6's Rick Wells reports some of them will get to show off their skills at the SemGroup Championship this weekend at Cedar Ridge Country Club.

Samantha Summers is the PE teacher at Liberty Elementary in Broken Arrow. She's teaching second graders the basics of golf using the SNAG method.

SNAG stands for "Starting New at Golf," it's a new way of teaching. The teachers learned about it last summer. The program was picked up by a few Broken Arrow and Tulsa elementary schools and the kids seem to be taking to it.

"It's easy for PE teachers to teach it in large groups, they see success right away. The ball gets up in the air 'cause they are hitting off that little launch pad. They can swing at it as hard as they want and feel like Tiger Woods," said Holley Hair of Tee Town Golf Ranch.

Fourth and fifth graders are practicing for the SNAG Tournament and demonstration this weekend at the LPGA tournament.

They will compete against the best from the other schools in the program for a trophy.

"We have nine schools about 73 kids participating total," said Jason Hair of Tee Town Golf Ranch.

The Tee Town Golf Challenge SNAG Tournament and Skills Demonstration will be Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the SemGroup Championship, on the driving range at Cedar Ridge.
