Former School Boss Could Go To Prison

The feds are going after a Green Country school superintendent for nearly $1 million.  Marble City School's former superintendent is expected to plead guilty to three federal counts of embezzlement and fraud.  The News On 6's Ashli Sims reports the U.S. Attorney says Larry Couch was raiding Marble City School's piggy bank.  Now, they're going after the cash and trying to send the shamed superintendent to prison.

Marble City is the kind of school district where everyone knows everyone else.  Apparently, the community didn't really know Larry Couch.

Instead of setting an example of what his students should do, Larry Couch may go down in the Marble City history books as the poster boy for what not to do.

Federal prosecutors say he embezzled nearly $1 million from the school district over about five years.  They say Couch funneled the money through an education account that only he could access.

The three-count indictment also charges Couch with tax fraud.  It claims he reported $24,000 in income, when he really made more than$140,000.

The feds are trying to recover the money by seizing Couch's property, including a 1999 van, farm equipment, two homes, and 250 acres of land near Lake Tenkiller.

While his school district struggles to recover, Couch could be trading the classroom for a jail cell.

The U.S. Attorney says Larry Couch could face five years in prison.  There will be a plea hearing next week to decide his fate.
