Rogers County residents are outraged to learn their rural road won't be rebuilt. Keetonville Road slid into the Verdigris River after heavy rains last month, stranding 85 families.
Those families packed a meeting room at the Rogers County Courthouse and even stood out in the hallways on Thursday night. Rogers County Commissioners said the ground is unstable and their only connection to the highway has to be abandoned.
A new roadway will have to be built to connect those families to major highways.
"You've gotta stay away from where that soil is unstable. And, that whole ridge on Verdigris River, that whole soil area is eroding and is falling away. It's unstable," said Rogers County Commissioner Mike Helm.
FEMA will help pay to build the new road.
