Tulsa police have arrested a man they say was breaking into police cars and stealing weapons. The News On 6's Chris Wright reports police say the suspect confessed to breaking into four police cars recently, and stealing a semi-automatic weapon, as well as several shotguns.

Janet Bilyew is married to a police officer and usually expects her husband's car to serve as a deterrent, but it was burglarized early Saturday morning.

Police say Mitchell Trowe shattered the window and stole two shotguns and a pepper ball gun. He then made the mistake of sticking around.

"We come outside to look, and all of a sudden she said there he is, right there.  And he come back walking by our house, gingerly like nothing's going on," said Bilyew.

Police found Trowe nearby. They also found his backpack, which contained the stolen guns.

Police say it was a busy night for Trowe. They say he also confessed to breaking into the Tulsa Firearms store earlier and stealing several weapons there. He then told authorities he was targeting police cars.

"In the past week we've had approximately three other police cars, Tulsa police and sheriff's department that have been targeted," said TPD Capt. Brett Bailey.

Police say Trowe stole a semi-automatic AR 15 from one of those cars, but has returned that weapon to authorities.

Trowe was arrested on complaint of felony second degree burglary and auto theft.
