Casino Helping Soldiers Overseas

Many soldiers overseas have "wish-lists" of supplies they'd like to get from the Homefront. Cherokee Casino employees are working to make those "wish-lists" come true.

The News On 6's Rick Wells reports the employees are packing boxes of supplies to be sent to Oklahoma's 45th Infantry Brigade in Iraq.

Volunteers put together items to be included in the hundreds of boxes they'll ship to Iraq.

"We're gonna wind up with over 40,000 items," said Sean Walkingstick of Cherokee Nation Enterprises.

He said all the boxes of supplies came from employees of the seven Cherokee Casinos in Northeast Oklahoma during a month long supply drive.

"We had an independent challenge; challenged employees to a friendly competition to see who could raise the most items," said Walkingstick.

So while some volunteers continued to unpack the donated items others are getting a head start on the individual boxes.

They believe they've collected enough stuff to fill more than 700 individual boxes. Some of the boxes are put together for female soldiers.

Games like checkers and pocket sized peg board games will go in most boxes and even some educational material.

They think they'll have all the boxes ready to mail by the end of the week.
